Building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road: Roundtable & Dinner

The Pathfinder Foundation (PF) and the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) organised a high-level seminar on cooperation between Sri Lanka and China to advance the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road (MSR) initiative in Colombo on 21st November 2014.

Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) visits Sri Lanka.

A visiting delegation from China’s top rank think-tank Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) had discussions with the Founder of the Pathfinder Foundation (PF) Mr. Milinda Moragoda and its senior officials on collaborative research and studies in areas such as realizing the economic benefits of the Maritime Silk Road initiative and strengthening the capacity of PF on strategic studies. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Milinda Moragoda, Founder of the PF and Dr. Yang Jiemian, Senior Fellow of the SIIS. Among the participants from the Chinese side was H.E. Ambassador Wu Jianghao, Dr. Zhou Shixin, Research Fellow at the Institute for Foreign Policy Studies Centre for Asia – Pacific Studies, Dr. Chen Youjun from the Institute for World Economy Studies, Mr. Wang Lei, Executive Director of the Institute for Comparative Politics and Public Policy and Dr. Xue Chen, Research Fellow, Institute for International Strategic Studies as well as the Centre for Maritime & Polar Region Studies. The PF representation consisted of Mr. Bernard Goonetilleke, Chairman, Mr. M D D Pieris, Director, Prof. Sirimal Abeyratne, Senior Fellow, Mr. Luxman Siriwardena, Executive Director and Ms. Ameera Arooz, Project Manager.

Towards a Breakthrough in China – Sri Lanka Tourism and Investment Promotion: A Non-Governmental Initiative

Mr. Zhu Rui, Secretary General of the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD) who was the architect and driving force behind the visiting tourism and related investment promotion mission from Changzhou, Wuxi and Suzhou in Jiangsu Province gave an assurance in the presence of Hon. Faiszer Mustapha, Deputy Minister of Investment Promotion that there would be a minimum of 30,000 additional tourists in 3 years time.     The CPAPD and its Sri Lankan partner organization, the Pathfinder Foundation (PF), collaborated in this venture as a means of giving effect to the implementation of the Cooperation Memorandum signed between the two organizations in July 2012.

Landmark Cooperation Memorandum between China and Sri Lanka : seek to promote people to people relations

Memorandum for Co-operation between the Chinese People’s Association for Peace & Disarmament (CPAPD) and the Pathfinder Foundation (PF) was signed at a ceremony held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel. The Memorandum was signed by Ms. Chen Huaifan, Deputy Secretary General of CPAPD and Mr. Luxman Siriwardena, Executive Director on behalf of the PF.  The event was witnessed by Mr. Milinda Moragoda, Founder of the Pathfinder Foundation and Senior Advisor to the President and His Excellency Mr. Wu Jianghao, Ambassador for China in Sri Lanka.
